WEN 6530 6-Amp Electric Hand Planer, 3-1/4-Inch

Like one other reviewer wrote this thing is a beast. I built a wheel chair ramp and needed to taper 2×6 edge at end of ramp. I tried my belt sander but it would have taken forever to get it cut down. Ordered the Wen planer and got it the next day, it took maybe 5 minutes to get the job done. It has plenty of power, I cut a pretty deep cut and it never even sounded like it was loaded.The little chip bag that came with it is a joke, it would have filled up in about 5 seconds. If I gad to use inside I would hook it up to my shop vac. If it holds up well it will be a winner.

Great product for the price! Was very impressed with the power that it had. Very easy to use! Wish the cord was a little longer.

So it took me a minute to get the hang of it but once I did it worked. Not top notch but for the money it did what it needed to do.

I’m not sure I used this as designed but it eats wood! I am renovating an old house and some old window frames were sticking out past the drywall which replaced old plaster and lath. The old window frames will be cased with new trim so precision wasn’t a concern.I’ve never used a planer, didn’t read the directions, no idea what the extra parts in the box do, and really had no idea how to use it. I plugged it in and messed with the knobs and based on simple logic set to the maximum removal setting. Pulled the trigger and bingo! I had wood chips flying out of this thing as I didn’t bother to put the collection bag on. This thing trimmed 3 door frames in about 10 minutes and made a massive pile of 100 year old wood chips. Put it back in the box and put it on the shelf. Maybe I’ll use it again, maybe not but either way I got my $39.00 worth!If you’re looking at it just buy it. If I didn’t break it you won’t! Nails didn’t seem to bother it either. Ate those off too!

I'm not very handy, but my home needed a new window seal on a large northern facing window. After watching a few videos saw that the only challenge would be getting a 12% slope across the exterior facing side so the water runs the right direction. Recalling all I could remember about those trig hippopotamus, calculated the drop and notch the board edge with my router, the took one look at my old school manual planer and the 8' length and thought of the hours it would take and started looking for "power hand planers". Looked through the review of several brands most of which were good with the exception of the guide construction and the saw dust ejection. The WEN had no repeated specific complaints about its guide and dust ejection only in one direction. It came quickly, very well packaged. I should have practice with it but did set it for very small bites @ 1/32" (dial it to depth you need) to provide opportunity for error correction. Simply leaned on the outer edge on each pass until the routed notch on the low side was gone. The slope is very consistent the full 8' length. Spent more time calculating / studying than the 15 minutes to set up the planer and cut the slope needed. OH! It has a notch on the bottom of the planer to round off the edge too. Virtually no sanding required afterwards other than over a knotted area . . . . very easy to use even for the novice.

This planer makes it easy to plane wood. It takes some getting used to but works very well.

I originally purchased this to shave the top of a bedroom door and keep it from binding. My brother gave me some Wild Cherry Log pieces. Got them cut in half with the chainsaw which was very rough. I needed to get a somewhat flat side to set on the bed of my bandsaw so I could get some good perpendicular cuts. This Cherry is really dense and this Planer cut through this like butter. It runs very smooth and barely bogged down at all. I never took off more than a 1/32", but effortless. This was with the standard steel blades but Wen also sells carbide blades for this tool and I'll definitely try them. I've used a portable Planer years ago and it takes some practice to get your technique down. The only negative is that there's no way to lock the depth adjustment knob so you have to be careful not to rotate your hand while operating. Love the switchable dust chute!
