Great stairs but needs better supports
I like the stairs; they are the right height for my couch and fit into the decor of the living room very nicely. My three mini doxies use the stairs all the time without any problems. My issue with them is the small wooden pegs that support the weight of the stairs as well as anything on the stairs. My brother, who is not over-weight nor a huge man, was sitting on the couch and rested one leg on the top stair like a foot rest. One of the pegs broke. When I put the stairs together, I was concerned about the pegs and wondered how long they would last. Obviously my concerns were warranted. We are now in the process of finding metal pegs to substitute and I'm sure that will fix the issue.I do a lot of shopping on Amazon and they always want customer reviews. I seldom take the time but this purchase deserved a review to let others know of the problem.

I received something totally different.
Where to begin.... it deserves no stars. The item I ordered, and the item I received were drastically different. While I understand shipping slip-ups, I was told I couldn't return this for my actual order, so I'm going to have to be blunt.I did not receive what was pictured, above.Rather that the attractive, wood-grain, portable model I ordered, I received 6 pieces of particle board, a very thin and ill fitting "sheepskin" cover, with NO screws or instructions.Due to no return option, (though purchased on prime BEWARE OF SELLER) I put the thing together with my own supplies in about 5 minutes. When trying to put the cover on it, I realized the pattern is really off, and it will take manual adjustments to get it to fit the stairs. The cover is imperative for the dog (or other animal) to comfortably use the stairs. Otherwise, the corners are sharp, and there is no cushioning to the steps. Even with the cover on, your dog may scratch himself on a corner. The cushioning provided by the cover is about the density and pliability or tissue paper.Additionally, in no way, shape, or form is this the storable, attractive item I ordered. It's incredibly unattractive, and uncomfortable for a dog to use- point blank. Don't buy. DONT BUY.I have a short jack Russell terrier, who normally uses ottomans to get in bed. This thing is misery for him.DON'T GET DUPED.

I'm glad for that
Honestly, I only read the reviews for this product after I quickly hit "buy" and paid for this item. I'm glad for that. I wouldn't have given this a chance otherwise. It's true, the wooden dowels are not made for pressure imposed by anything larger than a 15 - 20lb animal. That's all these stairs are made for. They are not made to be a human foot rest. You WILL have to train your dog to use these (easily done with training treats - I did it in a half-hour by placing treats up and down the stairs so my baby would go up and down a few times until she got used to them). If you use these as they were intended, they are perfectly stable and actually are pretty attractive. My little baby loves being able to get up and down easily now, and doesn't have to whine at my bedside anymore until I pick her up.

Poor instructions.
This product needs better instructions. Poor diagrams, etc. I figured it out using the photos on the box and previous experience, but it would have been nice to have clear, concise directions. It took twice as long to assemble as it should have taken.

Does the job perfectly
My dog uses it every time he wants to get up on the bed. He's a little 5lb yorkie and we keep it about 2 inches off the edge so that he's got room to run up. He got used to it within a day or two because I guess he saw how useful it was. If you're one of those people thinking about the steps for your pup, and you find yourself picking them up all the time, I'd recommend it. Aesthetically it fits in well with most homes too. It may not be a heavy duty set of stairs, but its been in the same shape now for almost 2 years. Its also very light if you ever want to reposition for cleaning or anything or that sort.

The steps are short and not to the quality represented ...
The steps are short and not to the quality represented in the photos. The steps are attached to the rails by a screw on each side, leaving the front edge of the step to float or rest on a wooden peg that is inserted (think of pegs used to assemble furniture.) The steps would seems to barely hold the weight of my 25 lbs. dog. The steps only reach about 3/4 of the way up the bed - which means your pet would need to jump from the top step, which is not feasible from these narrow steps. This is a poorly engineered product, just save the time and get something different.

making the item useless. I understand this isn't fine furniture
While making the bed I dropped my foot down on this accidentally, & the pegs were sheared right off, cleanly, so I can't get what's left out of the holes, making the item useless. I understand this isn't fine furniture, but for the cost some stronger, perhaps also longer, pegs could be provided. Maybe metal ones.

It was a waste of money
The packaging was awful. The box arrived banged up causing one of the steps to be chipped as they are constructed of pressed wood. The product didn't last more than 2 months. Our 20 pound dog went to get up on the bed and the bottom stair came off due to the pressed wood breaking where the screws were inserted. Then about three days later the middle step broke in the same fashion. It was a waste of money. I guess you get what you pay for. I would not purchase it again.
