The simple perfect heating pad. Get one or two.

I had an original that had the beige peculiar fabric. That was all weird and had worked for 20 years or more. Well, my 5 pound Chihuahua finally burned it up. My Chihuahua didn't like the one for dogs because it's hard. So I bought another one and looked at the prices and looked at what they do in All the fancy. We Americans do love our fancy. And I just got another sun beam. With a pretty blue cover easily washed, easily brushed to take off Chihuahua/terrier mix hair. And it's low is what was left of the 20 year old ones high. But I never got to use it. At such a good price I bought a second one for me. Can you imagine what actually happened? Yes, you're right. It turned into one in the bedroom and one in the living room for the dog. But I get it when I need it. I even have one put away right now. I love this product low medium high it wraps beautifully. It's a piece of cake and it will get good and warm as you turn it up. I think it's a great treasure at the price I was able to buy it which was under $18. They are also good to have for guests who have driven a long way for the winter and need something for their low back or their shoulder. Enjoy.

No frills, long cord, works great

Just the right size, just a basic heating pad, with a long cord. Works great

Very effective for pain relief for injuries and post-surgery, very large.

I have used this heavily for a hip injury that otherwise would keep me up in pain all night and also for after my laparoscopic abdominal surgery. I have hardly taken any pain meds as a result. My only caution is that there is no timed heat shutoff like most heating pads and so you can damage your skin if you leave it on too long on high with blankets and everything over it. Honestly, I did that many times and only one time was my skin blotchy red and then I stopped doing that and went to TENS unit after the redness went away.I do recommend this for people who can be careful about how long they use it and how high they set it. I would be cautious about using it for children, elderly, or anyone who might need supervision or who might have more fragile skin. It's not hotter than other heating pads, but it doesn't turn off by itself and covers a large area.I will say that it does get less hot after a while, and I don't know why, but occasionally I did wake up with it being too hot, never extremely hot, but I just did the unthinkable and had it under layers of blankets against the cold and that was not advisable. They say doing that with any electric heating pad could start a fire. I will tell you that I've accidentally left it on all day and used it all night without any fire issues, but don't take that for granted. For use during waking hours without piling blankets on so it holds too much heat, I recommend it for people with normal condition skin for warming large areas.I have to also say that it's great to use if the room is cold and your bed is cold and you just want to be warm. Just make sure you turn it off before you go to sleep. It was a good deal when I bought it.

Pretty Good

Nice and sturdy. Provides an even heat. Only thing I noticed that could use improvement is the heat settings could be calibrated better. Low is so low you can't tell it's on, Medium is just OK, and High is too hot. I've been using Medium mostly, and then High intermittently for a few minutes. Otherwise, works well.

works well for my dog

The seller was Amazon. I purchased it for 20 bucks. I keep my house cold. My short-hair Chihuahua dog needs a place to warm himself, and this heating pad fits the bill. The item is made in China. In the past, I purchased small/medium/large variations of K&H Pet Bed Warmer, 13 Watts, Large, 11 By 24 Inches and placed them in his beds. But those warmers are either lukewarm, quit after a couple of years, or dead-on-arrival. K&H warmers also cost more than the Sunbeam. For a dog, the Sunbeam on LOW setting works great. Medium setting is too warm. High setting is too hot. If you plug-in the heating pad by itself and then feel it, then it may not feel hot to human touch even on the high setting. However, if you put a towel around it, then it will feel hot (since the heat builds up and radiates through the cloth).Since the outer layer of my dog's bed is not real thick, I folded a bath towel and placed it inside the bed between the heating pad and the top of the dog bed; that made the heat much more gentle. It works great with this pet bed: Snoozer Cozy Cave, Navy, Small. It fits most of the bed, but not all of it, which is good. If the dog gets too warm, then he moves to the back, front, or side/edge of the bed. Most of the time, he is in the middle area...loving the warmth!CONTROLS & CORDThe controls are easy to use: off, low, medium, high. The switch moves up/down between settings, and clicks into place (so it can't be accidentally moved/bumped to another setting). There is a red light on the controller to let you know it is on. The cord is a total of 9 feet long (21 inches between the pad and the controller, 7 feet 3 inches between the controller and the plug).MEASUREMENTEven though the heating pad measures 12 inches by 24 inches, about 1 inch around the heating pad does not get warm (it's just plastic, no heating elements are in that space). I think this is true of most heating pads. So, the heating surface is about 10 inches by 22 inches.HOW WARM DOES IT GET ON LOW?I used an OXO Good Grips Digital Instant Read Thermometer to check the temperature in 5 locations on the LOW setting. Here is what I found: The area closest to the cord was 121F. Six inches next to that was 107F. Six inches next to that was 113F. Six inches next to that was 112F. Six inches next to that was 107F. When I checked the pad temperature, the pad had been turned on for an hour. The pad was in the pet bed (under the first layer of the bed). The bed has a top cover. I placed the thermometer on the bed and pressed the top cover on top of it, and held it there until the temperature reading stabilized.NO AUTO SHUTOFFThis heating pad does not have auto-shutoff, which is one of the reasons why I bought it. For convenience and to make sure it doesn't stay-on when it's not needed, I have it plugged into an Intermatic TN711C Security Timer; I only have 1 red/off tab inserted into the timer, so the pad is automatically turned-off by 11pm each day. So, when I get-up in the morning, I turn-on the timer manually, and then it automatically shuts-off at night. That saves energy, and it is a bit safer.I am very pleased with the Sunbeam, and my dog is very happy with it. I hope it lasts a long time.
