These are absolutely the nicest towels I've ever had. They are thick, absorbent and wash beautifully. So happy to have found these and will be ordering more. A tiny bit more expensive but so worth it!

We’ve been using these 1888 Made Here towels at our guest retreat for six years. They are holding up well, are absorbent and thicker than most. This does impart the luxury feeling we seek to share with visitors. One reason why we chose these Cotton Made in Africa ones is because the bath towels are plenty large and satisfying, yet not giant. Some bath towels today are really the size of what used to be called bath sheets. Because our guest retreat has a small stackable washer dryer we sought great quality but no so large the washer would get clogged up when the maid needs to get everything ready quickly for the next guests.I read here that some feel the quality has gone down. We bought these replacements because some disappeared after the last visitors left. Imagine that! We’ll take that as a complement. At first I did not perceive a quality drop. However, the pattern near the ends is barely differentiated compared to the very well-crafted originals. Not enough contrast in the loop heights.

Update: June 14, 2019: Ordered another one of these towels, after writing the original review and the quality, is completely different. Don't know how much can be seen in the photo, but the second towel ordered, is 2/3 the thickness of the original two ordered and is no where near as plush or soft as the original. The new towel is scratchy and poorly woven. Returned 2nd towel. It's a gamble, no matter who you order from.It is becoming more and more difficult to find a decent 100% cotton towel, at a reasonable price. Thank goodness, 1888 Mills, still manufactures a REAL 100% cotton towel.Ordered two bath towels last week, used and washed them, line dried (we never use a dryer) and not only are they thick, but as absorbent as a good cotton towel should be. Ordered more, in the event they disappear.Too many sellers advertise 100% cotton, but when the towels are received, you'll find "cotton loops", on a polyester backing, on the tag.1888 Mills, is the real deal and still made in the USA. These are good towels and will suggest stocking up, while they are available, at the current price.I will also suggest ordering directly from Amazon or 1888 Mills. Too many times, sellers list products with different labels. Check you labels as soon as you receive the towels and make sure it states 1888 Mills.

I should have read the details of the ad. The cotton is grown in Africa and though the idea of supporting a worthy growing project there is nice, I wanted US made with US cotton to reduce the carbon footprint of shipping cotton across the ocean to make a washcloth. Shipping products across the globe, that we already grow in the US is not very ecological. That being said, they are well made, soft, large sized washcloths. It was my error for not reading closely, but I’m going seek out a 100% grown and made in the US washcloth next time.

I was looking for some really nice, THICK towels to give to somebody as a gift. I've never owned or bought any myself, so I did A LOT of research into what the best plush and high quality towels may be. The criteria I wanted were: very thick, soft, & great absorbency (so it didn't feel like you were just rubbing wet cotton all over your body).I bought these towels cause a lot of reviews raved they were plush and had good absorbency. I was disappointed when I received them due to how they felt. They weren't the softest towel I've ever felt (Vera Wang brand at Kohls were much softer), and they reminded me of the white hotel towels you'd find at Comfort Inns or Best Western's (which I don't consider 'luxury'). They were thin/light and a little rougher than I wanted - by "rougher" I don't mean stiff or scratchy by any means, but it wasn't SUPER soft. Basically these towels did not impress me (and I've always bought Target towels).I did not test these so I am not going to comment on their absorbency or quality. I'm sure they're great towels but purely on how they felt, I returned them.I ended up going to Macy's and buying the Macy's Hotel Collection Luxury Cotton towels - AMAZING! The towels felt a lot softer than the Mills, and they were also a lot thicker and heavier feeling (which I prefer). I was really impressed with how soft they felt. The Macy's also dry/absorb VERY well, and very quickly. They don't even feel wet after I dry myself off. I can't compare them to the Mills though cause I've never used the Mills.I don't consider the Mills "plush" cause they're thin and not SUPER soft. If you prefer lighter towels then I'm sure these are great, and I LOVE the cause that these towels bring to Africa. But if you're looking for thick, heavy AND really soft towels I would recommend the Macy's over these Mills.

These are not as fluffy as expected. They wash well and feel soft.
