Very informative
Very informative. Lots of photos, and details.

Disappointing
Looking beyond the book being a soft cover for 40 bucks... very generic. I enjoy reading Sweeney but this is basic information found in almost any other book about 1911's. Not a shop/gunsmithing book by any means.

Interesting presentation
I’m a 1911 fan and this book is not quite what I expected, but does have alot of good content.

Disappointed in the Quality
The book content isn’t bad but it may be geared more to the beginner and doesn’t get as deep into the gunsmithing as I had hoped for. There is no chapter on tools which I think any book on gunsmithing should include . The pictures are in black and white and the picture quality isn’t great in some cases . My biggest complaint is that for the price I expected slick pages not newspaper type pages. I suspect This is more of a Gun Digest issue than anything that Sweeney had control over. If all the other Gun Digest books use newspaper pages like this then I won’t be buying any more of their books

Disappointing
While this book has some general information regarding the 1911 platform, it is by no means a gunsmithing guide. Also, all the photos are black and white and of rather poor quality. With topics like "A Brief History Of The 1911" and "Sizes Of 1911" this book is clearly aimed at the novice 1911 owner. Even the cover art is strange in that it features a Smith & Wesson 1911, one of the few 1911's that use an external extractor. Save your money.

Not what it says.
You would think this book would give you detailed steps on customizing a 1911. It doesn't. It describes what custom gunmakers do but offers no instruction. Total waste of money.

Not a gunsmithing manual
Very generic overview, also outdated. Waste of money.
