Dow Corning 795 Silicone Building Sealant - White

For a silicone based product, this stuff is very easy to work with. It tools like an oil based product and doesn’t have that slippery coat everything it touches effect that household silicone caulks have. Sets up rather quickly and cures to an incredibly tough rubber. My application was sealing acrylic windows to a fiberglass sailboat. Apparently this is THE stuff to use according to near consensus on the interwebs...and now I see why! Some reviews mentioned expiration date. Mine was only a couple of months old and performed perfectly. Expensive, but you get what you pay for with a legit high performance product.

It seals great and is not too messy. The dates on the tubes were about 8 months old when received so not out of date but two tubes had hardened up near the spout. I did eventually break up the hard spot with a wire and got it flowing but that caused me to lose about 15 percent of the tube contents to get it to eventually usable. If you buy this use it quickly, as it seems to harden up quickly in the tubes.

Doe Corning 795 was designed to seal windows to frames in high rise bulildings, the Urban legend goes. We have a boat and the lenses in the hatches have leaked since day one (the boat is used). We replaced the lenses this year and sealed the lenses to the aluminum frame with 795. I have done this before with other sealants, at least 3 differed brands, and they all leaked. The sealant pulled away from the frame/lens. The cause is the apparent difference in expansion between the two. 795 will tolerate a 50% elongation. So far the hatches are leak free and the lenses are solidly attached. The only negative to 795 is that it will not accept paint, and it is messy to work with.

The calk gunned out well. The filled seam has a tougher hardness than kitchen and bath calk. Time will tell if it can take a 50 degree temperature change next winter in the shower. It should it will hold up to 100 degree temperature change in sail boats. Check the expiration date. Out of date material will not cure. The delivered tube had 8 months before expiration.

Received the product with only a few month's shelf life remaining. By the time I use it in warmer weather, it's no good. Saw other reviews about stale product but gambled anyway. Learned my lesson. Don't recommend buying caulk online.

Very high quality silicone caulk. Easy to work with. Can be gunned in all temperatures. I used it in the upper 30s with no difficulty. "Use by" date is 8 months from date of receipt - this is not unusual for this type of product with 1-year shelf life being common. It is certainly far superior to the types of silicone caulk in big box stores - but at several times the cost as well. For my application (applying a high end silicone weatherseal) it is worth the expense.

Worked as it should

I used this to install a deck hatch on my boat. Really liked the way this caulk worked over silicone. It had great adhesion and was easy to work. After a week I was able to snug up the bolts for an even tighter fit. No leaks.
