Q: Does this work for midges?

No doesn't keep anything out. The holes are too big at 4mm.

Q: Does this keep out fungus gnats and whiteflys?

I haven’t had any fungus gnats since having these up. But have had a few white flys.

Q: Could you use this to keep the cat in but the windows open on summer?

You can open the windows, I lifted the net off the Velcro, opened the window and then pressed the net back on the Velcro. I don’t own a cat, not sure if the cat could scratch the net and get out if it tried. Over all the net was great for summer, kept moths and bees out.

Q: Does it keep out dust

The holes are big enough for dust but still small enough for mosquitoes and big spiders to not enter. But dust can still come through.
