It's Good for the Money!
I use a Rode Procaster mic with their professional studio arm for my radio shows. I've never been happy with Rodes quote that "the integrated Internal pop filter ensures plosives and breath noises are tamed, even when using the microphone close to the lips". A foam wind shield helped but I felt it muffled the voice and I still had noticeable 'pops'. I have now done away with the foam shield and hope this 'Tea strainer' will stop plosives but also by its placement will discipline me not to talk too close to the mic.It does need a little thought where to fix it to the arm to ensure it remains in line with the mic, particularly if the arm / mic arrangement is moved away from you. Once decided it fixes quite securely. So far I have used it to do some voice overs and the results seem very good. However, the proof will be how it fairs during my live radio shows but I feel very hopeful it will be good.

Fixing is a bit of a let down but the shield works well.
For a budget item I guess you shouldn't expect too much, but I have to say that with a minor modification this could be an excellent filter. The good part is that it's an effective pop shield - see the image below. The first part is me recording with the pop shield, the second part is the same sentence without it. I used the time honoured tongue twister that's packed with plosives: "Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers." Many years of microphone use has taught me to almost breathe in on those letters and so I don't pop a lot anyway but I thought I'd give it a try. There was no adjustment to the recording volume and the distance from the mic was very similar in both instances. The major difference is the volume of air moved by the letter 'p' at the start of each word. The recording graph shows this quite, err, graphically. So why only 4 stars? It's the fixing. The pop shield is quite weighty so it's almost impossible to mount it coming in from the side of the mic because gravity pulls at the flexible arm and the mounting point is only screwed into the base. Therefore it just falls down. You have to fit it so that it hangs down from over the top of the mic and this means adjusting the arm of the mic stand to make room for the fixing (which also isn't that great). If the mounting was a little more substantial and able to hold the weight of the shield without drooping it'd be an excellent product. As it is, I think I'll have to conduct some 'adjusting' to make it a little more stable. If you're wanting to do close mic work and can get it positioned so that it stays where you want it then leave it where it is!

Sturdy and well made - just the job!!
This is great, and a lot sturdier than I expected. It clamps on to a mic stand easily enough - the clamps are actually designed for a tubular stand (which most mic stands are). I actually used this to clip to a boom arm attached to my piano. My boom arm is made from square sections, but I soon found a tubular section on the stand I could attach it to. It's easy to adjust and really looks the part. The only downside is that even if it makes you look like a pro, it won't make you sound like one (unfortunately), so if you want to perfect your singing voice, you better get practicing!!

Want to know why?
No more are the days with a pair of tights and a steel hanger.Long since are my days of diy'ing multiple pop killers for my recording sessions over. This little guy has saved me when in a tight spot.Taking price into consideration this is at the higher end of the scale. The quality of material for the price is good. The extension fits & the clamp is well equipped. It has a slip the odd time but nothing a skilled producer can't fix/adjust.

Filter quality is great, build... not so much.
When the product arrived, the first thing i noticed was the lack of a second bold in the filter of the item. It was, along with it's nut, inside the bag it came in. Next, where the filter attaches to the clamp, this part is very loose and with no real way of tightening the base with my fingers, a pair of pliers was used to tighten it so it no longer fell over when used, however, damaging the paintwork it's looking a little shoddy and i feel the base of the adjuster pole should not be able to come apart and should perhaps be welded to the clamp. The structure of the item and the design once fixed together properly is amazing. Great value for what you get.
