One of the consequences of radioactive fallout, as from a disaster like Chernobyl or a nuclear bomb is an increased risk of thyroid cancer due to radioactive iodine building up in the thyroid gland.The recommended prevention for this is to take potassium iodide tablets for a few weeks, which then saturates the thryroid with non-radioactive iodine. These pills are an easy way to do that - you get 90 tablets per container, which is enough for one person for 45 days.Bear in mind that these are not an "antidote" to radiation; there are plenty of other ways it can make you very sick or kill you, but they will protect you from thyroid cancer. Useful to stick in the cupboard just in case...

I use this for my mother who gets very quickly potassium deficient after septicemia and being on furosamide fiaretic. Her potassium seems to stay high enough although I cannot test it but she doesn't go dopey and sleep close to unconscious which she did in the hospital. I also like the iodine in there because it is good for many hormone processes not just thyroid. I can't stand the taste of liquid iodine so this is a good one for me to as I am trying to work through hormone problems.

DON'T take these unless the crisis we all hope doesn't happen occurs. And then only if advised. May help to avoid queues and fights if they ever have to be handed out enough masse.

I have not taken the supplement yet as at the time of writing this review nuclear war has not broken out. If and when it does, I am reassured that my thyroid gland will be protected whilst I wait to die from the resulting chaos.
